If you walked around one of the busier train station first thing in the morning you’ll almost always see a few people sleeping on the sidewalks. You would see an occasional homeless person, but what I always thought was amazing was the number of not homeless people that you would see sleeping on the sidewalks. Business men who had missed the last train home or people who had tried to party all night and had not quite made it all the way to morning.

Trains in Japan stop running around midnight, so if you happen to take one of the first trains in the morning it’s pretty common to people staggering home after spending all night out. Occasionally you’ll see someone who’s made it onto the train and immediately fallen asleep. What makes this photo extra interesting is that it was taken in the middle of the afternoon. I’m not sure if this guy got on the train in the morning and has been sleeping there ever since or if he just recently fell asleep. Or possibly he’s died.

I’m always amaze by the number of people sleeping on the train and their ability to stay in a setting position while having a snooze. This guy unfortunately doesn’t seem to have that skill. At first he fell asleep and was leaning on the guy to his left who gave him a nudge to wake him back up. A minute later he was asleep again, but this time he leaned over onto the woman. The woman didn’t seem too happy about this, but also seemed too shy to do anything about it. She gave sleepy guy one little poke, but that didn’t do much, and then just let him sleep.
