France – Disneyland Paris

Yes, I know I live less than an hour away from Disneyland in Anaheim, but I’m still a big enough geek that wanted to go to Disneyland Paris while I was in France.

Lot’s of things are similar to other Disney parks, but there’s enough differences to make it worth checking out. One of the biggest differences was Tomorrow Land. The Paris Tomorrow Land has a cool Jules Verne theme to it and Space Mountain has a pretty wild looping roller-coaster.

The attention to detail and maintenance was definitely not as good as the other Disney parks I've been too.

Like some of the other Disney parks, there's a hotel above the entrance to the Disneyland Park.

I only found a couple of hidden Mickeys while I was at Disneyland Paris.

Singapore has just gotten it’s own Universal Studios. Most of the ride are pretty much the same as at other Universal Studios, but there were a few new ones. Unfortunately, The Battlestar Galactica Roller-Coaster and Madagascar ride were not open yet.

You can see the wild looking Battlestar Galactica Roller-Coaster in this photo, unfortunately it was not running.

Japan – Disney Hidden Mickeys

I went to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea several times while I was in Japan. While there I was able to a couple Hidden Mickeys.

Tokyo Disneyland

Like in California Disneyland, there’s a Mickey Head in one of the planets during the que for the Buzz Lightyear ride.

Outside of Buzz Lightyear there’s a sculpture of the little green alien guys, on the back of the sculpture there’s a Hidden Mickey.

In the Mermaid Lagoon area there are several Hidden Mickeys in the wall surrounding the King Triton statue.

Someone had made a Hidden Mickey in the dirt.

Hidden Poo Head

Hidden North America. I think the couple sitting on the bench was wondering why I was taking a photo of them.

Someone had formed a Hidden Mickey out of rope on one of the gondolas.

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. I went to the Anaheim Disneyland and Disney California Adventures last week. Normally Disney is famous for how clean and neat they keep everything, but for some reason the trash was overflowing the trash cans in the line for Toy Story Midway Mania! at California Adventures.

Japan – Fuji-Q Highland

I when to the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park in Fujiyoshida Japan near the base of Mount Fuji with three Japanese friends, Ayako, Taka, and Kumiko. Taka and I took the bus from Shinjuku while Ayako and Kumiko meet us at Fuji-Q. Becasue the Shinjuku station is such a huge crazy maze of buildings and train platforms Taka and I couldn’t find each other and ended up missing the bus we had planned to take. Fortunately there was another bus, but we had to wait an hour.

Eejanaika is a super gnarly 4D roller-coaster similar to X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles except Eejanaika is higher and faster. What make it a 4D coaster is that the seats can roatate forward or backward 360 degrees independently of the track. The track makes three loops, but your seat flips many times. This makes it super disorientating, you’re never sure which way you or the track is going.

Fujiyama is more of a standard steel roller-coaster, but it’s huge and fast. It’s the world’s eight tallest and fifth longest roller-coaster, and hits a speed of 80mph.

If you were feeling scared, you could always take the chicken way.

Dodonpa is is a pretty simple roller-coaster, but that doesn’t stop it from being a pretty wild ride. What makes it wild is that it’s all about accelerating ’til blood comes out of your ears and going fast, Dodonpa goes from 0 to 107 mph (172 km/h) in less then 2 seconds. During take-off I thought my eyeballs were going to get squeezed out the back of my head. After the launch it goes down a long straight, around a huge banked turn then up a hill that goes straight up then down the hill going straight down and that’s pretty much it.

The park actually seemed pretty empty until you got in line for one of the roller-coasters. Each of the three main roller-coasters had a little over an hour wait.

Japan – LaQua Amusement Park

I was up near the Tokyo Dome and found a cool little amusement park and shopping area. I only went on the roller-coaster, it has a pretty gnarly first drop and the coaster goes through a hole in a building and through the center of the Farris Wheel.
